It was this leguaans lucky day when Chris Pretorius picked him off the road in December 2012 after he thought he was hit by a car.

He returned to their family farm, Elandskloof near Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, with the luguaan neatly tucked away in his shirt for warmth and comfort.
"When I found him in December, I assumed he was hit by a car and he was only a few weeks old. I had to hand rear him for about three months because he had concussion."
It was during this time of lots of love and attention that Likkie became fond of his new home. Chris used to carry him around tucked into his shirt, to help him stay warm.
"At night we would place him on the bed under the blanket" Chris says. "Likkie also then became used to my cat, Roelien, who enjoyed sleeping on the bed too."
It became prevalent that Likkie enjoyed the cosy atmosphere and would wiggly his way under Roelien the cat, to snuggle up and stay warm at night. Roelien did not mind, as this was not her first leguaan that she had to acquaint herself with in the Pretorius home.
"He still tries to climb into my shirt pocket, but now he is just too big for it."
Likkie has recovered from his injuries and Pretorius said he will release him onto his farm pretty soon. Likkie however has not managed to stay out of trouble, as he has already got himself stuck inside a rock, which had to be cracked open before they were able to free him from it.
We wish Likkie a healthy long life filled with safer adventures!
