Big Mistake No 17:
Walking with your dog on a hot day
Most dogs love to go for walks, but often when on a leash, they do not have a choice of where you walk them. The hot surface, be that in your local neighborhood, on a hot beach, or when hiking on the mountain could cause severe damage to their paws, as well as overheating can lead to vomiting, seizures, and even death. If you can not hold your hand on the tarmac for longer than 5 seconds, then it is also too hot for your dog's paws.
It is best to walk your dog during the coolest part of the day and provide them with opportunities to drink water and walk on cooler surfaces, like grass and shady areas. Alternatively, try to go walking with your dog bare feet in the mountains, on the dunes, or in your local neighborhood. By doing this, you will not inadvertently expose them to unnecessary discomfort or pain. Not only will this do wonders for your health, but your dog will enjoy the outing just as much as you do.
